In this much older view of the Helgeandsholmen area ("View from the east, around 1650"); the first part of the legend is in German and the second part repeated in Swedish. The site of the Mint during Brandt and Cronstedt's time ("B") in 1650 is taken by "the northern port and bridge." View is west. This northern port ("Norreport") was a defensive tower which was removed in 1672 to give way for the "new" mint where Brandt and Crownstedt made their discoveries. At this time in 1650 the Mint ("C") was actually across the stream to the north where the Royal Stables were to be located (seen in the 1761 painting previously). The other buildings in the drawing no longer exist. There have been other earlier locations for the mint as well, as early as 1310, all locations about the present Mynttorget.
